Time Stories From My Father

When I was younger, we had a tradition of storytelling in my family. It extended to all generations and were usually passed down stories with a few newer ones interspersed. My Father was an outlier in this tradition. Almost every story he told was something new that he came up with. I’ve decided to share these here, since no one else in my family have taken them up to continue sharing. It’s the least I can do for him.

The First Traveler

Once and again, there was an inventor who wanted to change the world. He got funding from a rich sponsor and conducted his work in semi-secret. When the technology was complete and functional, they figured out one important issue. Objects disappeared but did they not return. It seemed to be a one-way trip for the would-be traveler. So no one was meant to try it out for themselves.

The inventor was crest fallen. This was his magnum opus, and he was determined to use it, even if just to see where, or rather when, he would end up. The inventor strapped himself into the machine and with the help of a reluctant intern, he was catapulted one day into the future.

He suffocated in the vacuum of space, but not without first experiencing full body ebullism, ruptured lungs, boiled eyes and whole-body swelling.
